Sneakers…with my Outlands

If you had asked me a year ago what I thought of sneakers and jeans as a combo I wouldn’t have known whether to laugh, cry, or cringe. In my mind, sneakers were designed for sporting fields, tennis courts and Seinfeld, and that is where they should stay.

But, much to my surprise, comfort is the new black evident by the number of Instagrammers and magazines telling me so. So I’m willing to give this trend a chance. After all, to wear denim jeans in any other context but a blue-collar workplace was a fashion faux pas once upon a time.

With a little strategic styling, sneakers don’t have to come across as ‘underdressed’. The key to creating a flattering silhouette is making sure your jean legs are the perfect length and therefore do not gather at your ankle. You can either have your jeans taken up, cuff, or fray the ankles to achieve this (sorry, fellow short people). Secondly, denim and sneakers look most flattering when the leg of your jean sits about an inch above your ankle-bone.

So if you, like me, are a little late to the party with Kendall, Gigi, et al, take note of these four denim and sneaker combos that will take your look from 1990s sitcom to street cred circa 2017 and kick it with the kids.

Casual Friday

Take a cue from French first Lady Brigette Macron who recently donned denim jeans to meet Rihanna; yes, THE Rihanna. Don’t mess with a woman in a blazer and our Lucy Bluejay denim; she is on a mission.

Take inspiration from the coast and pair crisp white linen shirt with our Lucy Light jean. Perfect for days by the beach; or for those days you wish you were at the beach.

With the Band

It’s time to dig your faded band t-shirts out from the back of the wardrobe. Style your top by tucking it into your Harriet jeans in Byron, and you’ve got the ideal outfit to tackle the weekend.

Night Owl

For the nights with no curfew, comfortable dancing kicks and black denim are required. The addition of a silk cami will transform your look from street to evening appropriate.
